How I Finally Achieved Web Success
After Many Years of Trial & Error
I am not a high tech guy, and I want web success. In fact, I want technology (especially computers) to be transparent. In other words, I want it to be like phones were not that long ago. The phone rang, you picked it up and you talked. You did not have to think about settings or network failures or reprogramming or any of the other tech stuff that seems to fill our lives.
I spent two plus years between 1985 and 1988 writing my first and only published book, Buckminster Fuller’s Universe (still in print). During that period, I learned the distinction between writing and publishing. Almost anyone can write a book or an article, but weather that material is good or bad it was difficult to get it published, especially by one of the major publishers. It was also difficult to have web success in brining my message to the public.
Having received hundreds of rejection letters from publishers over the past twenty years, I know this from personal experience. Just because you write something that is good and / or needed does not mean that it will be published, a fact that eventually led me to stop writing almost anything other than my personal journal.
I did have a couple experiences writing things for the web and publishing them on web sites that I created, but that process was costly, taking a great deal of my time and money. It did not produce the web success I was seeking, and it was difficult to maneuver. I couldn’t just write something and push a button to have it up and running. I had to send it to the guy who ran the hosting business, and he had to do work to get it posted. All that changed when I discovered Site Build It. I found web success at my fingertips.
Using their simple and nearly transparent technology, I am able to write what I want and have it “published” on the web within minutes of my final rewrite, clearly my dream of web success.
